Preparing for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) Certification Exam

Course Overview

Major corporations are adopting A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), 4th Edition, from the Project Management Institute (PMI®), and the related Project Management Professional (PMP®) Certification, as the primary sources of competency in the field of Project Management.

Market research indicates that employers want project management practitioners who have real experience leading and directing projects. To better meet this need, PMI has incorporated in the certification application process the requirement to document experience in leading and directing the various tasks required in effective project management. In addition, PMI places increased emphasis on situational questions in the testing process to better evaluate applicant skill in actually using their PMBOK® Guide knowledge. This emphasis has made the test more comprehensive and difficult than it was in the past, and increases the value of preparation course work prior to taking the test. This course, along with the participants’ review of the materials and repeated practice testing, will more than adequately prepare them to take the PMP® or CAPM® Certification Exam.

Day 1 of the course provides a detailed review of the Project Management framework and context. Many of the Day One topics are only mentioned in the PMBOK® Guide and knowledge of those topics is critical to passing the PMP® exam.

Day 2 of the course defines the Project Management life cycle, the Project Management processes, definitions of the nine Knowledge Areas, and Project Integration Management.

Day 3 of the course defines the core Knowledge Areas of Project Management: Scope, Time, Cost, and Quality Management.

Day 4 of the course defines the subsidiary Knowledge Areas of Project Management: Human Resource, Communications, Risk, and Procurement Management and the subject of professional responsibilities and ethics.
